GUANARTEME, is speculative design project that brought my passion of design and the feeling of home together. GUANARTEME is a neighbourhood in the city of Las Palmas of Gran Canaria. Currently their residents yearn to reconnect with their neighbourhood as they are experiencing a boom of construction in the area. Through placebranding the aim was to bring back the community together, old, new and visitors as one. Honouring the neighbourhood, its history and empowering residents to be proud to call themselves from GUANARTEME.
GUANARTEME has a rich history, it used to be a desolate poor area, with sand dunes and dirt roads. Factories settled later on, from the fish sector, energy, even soap. Working families settled and formed the neighbourhood, generations continued living there until now where some have been pushed out of their homes as the neighbourhood keeps growing and transforming. New tall buildings continue to be build but poor infrastrucutre and maintance can’t sustain it. It has become one of the most desired places to live on the island, as well as a hub for tourism. The neighbourhood has lot the sense of unity and pride, which is what I wish to bring back.

Wayfinding that is non disruptive with the surroundings, I made red cement bricks to represent the icon red brick found in the promanade.
